Selena Gomez, in full Selena Marie Gomez, born in Grand Prairie, Texas, U.S.), American actress and singer who won legions of young fans as the winsome star of the Disney television series Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–12) and as a pop vocalist.
Inspired by her mother, Gomez tried out for a role on the PBS children’s television series Barney & Friends and, as a result, appeared regularly on the program in 2002–04. After making her big-screen debut in the family movie Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003), she auditioned for the Disney Channel, which eventually led to a guest spot on the TV series The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
The show, for which she also sang the theme song, became an instant hit among the preteen set, and she earned favorable comparisons to the channel’s leading ingenue, Miley Cyrus.
Selena Marie Gomez was born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas, to Ricardo Joel Gomez and Texas-born former stage actress Mandy Teefey. She was named after Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, who died in 1995. Her father is of Mexican descent, while her mother, who was adopted, has Italian ancestry.
Gomez was born when her mother was 16 years old. The family had financial troubles throughout Gomez's childhood, with her mother struggling to provide for the pair. At one point, Gomez recalls that they had to search for quarters just to get gas for their car. Her mother later recalled that the two would frequently walk to their local dollar store to buy spaghetti for dinner. Gomez has said, "I was frustrated that my parents weren't together, and never saw the light at the end of the tunnel where my mom was working hard to provide a better life for me. I'm terrified of what I would have become if I'd stayed [in Texas]." She later added that her mother "was really strong around me. Having me at 16 had to have been a big responsibility. She gave up everything for me, had three jobs, supported me, sacrificed her life for me." Gomez had a close relationship with her grandparents as a child and appeared in various pageants. Her grandparents often took care of her while her parents finished their schooling, and she has said they "raised her" until she found success in show business.
2002–2006: Career beginnings
Watching her mother get ready for theater plays was how Gomez initially developed an interest in having a career in the entertainment industry. She made her acting debut in 2002 playing the role of Gianna on the kids' television program Barney & Friends. She made her acting debut in the show. When Gomez reflected on the event, she said, "I was very shy when I was little [...]" 'Camera correct' was a term I was unfamiliar with. I had no idea what blocking entailed. Barney taught me everything. Between 2002 and 2004, Gomez made thirteen appearances on the show before the producers decided she was "too old" for the program.[25] Gomez played a small part in the movie Spy Kids 3-D: The Movie when she was working on Barney & Friends(2005). She guest starred in a 2006 episode of the Disney Channel series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
Selena Gomez celebrated her 31st birthday with two events, one of which was a private Barbie screening during which she donned a cowgirl costume. As the new year gets underway, the actress hasn't said much about her personal life, but a source told Entertainment Tonight that she's doing okay. Gomez is really unmarried, as she acknowledges and frequently makes jokes about. Her present concerns are her friends, family, and health.
Selena is doing fantastic, according to the source. She reports feeling relatively calm and centered. She has made every effort to remove any poison that formerly pervaded her life. She keeps her friends close and enjoys their love and support.
The insider said, "She's prioritizing her mental health, lifelong friends, and using her platform to set a positive example." "She has also been spending a lot of time with her family, which is very important to her."
Gomez gave The Wrap her final significant interview in early June. She was questioned about how she keeps her life in balance. She retorted that she truly doesn't.
Because of my lifestyle, I don't think balance is consistent for me, she claimed. "As I've gotten older, I've realized more and more that this is my career and what I want to do with my life, so I want to enjoy it. And I carve out time for the vital things. This is the ideal illustration. I just finished my gig, and I'm going to spend a week with my family before heading to Paris and then coming back, but I'll also be working on my record at that time. I just have to do it all. Right now, that’s just how I function.
“Maybe when I get older, I’ll be different, but who I am—my work ethic, my life—is this: the hustle. And I get bored. I just want to do so many cool things with so many awesome people.”
